This remodel was the second time working in this home for beloved repeat clients. As the family grew, needs for the space changed and the flow of the kitchen improved. What was a mudroom (or more like an “everything” room) between the kitchen and garage was opened to overflow into the kitchen while the kitchen was given an aesthetic and functional upgrade. The powder room behind the kitchen was expanded into a petite full-bath as well. Crediting the homeowner with kudos as they were decisive, communicative and creative throughout the collaboration!

A historic kitchen was refreshed as an optimized family space. This Berkeley kitchen began compact and cramped. With no option for expanding square footage, layout changes were proposed to give more breathing room and much-needed additional storage. Doorways and other architectural features were redesigned to restore some of the home's historic charm.

As an unplanned full-time residence during the pandemic, this mini-remodel provided a quick refresh and some modern amenities to the delicate hundred-year old cabin. After nearly 100 years within the same family and only limited use in recent years, the cabin transformed to a cozy family-ready space with improvements made to appliances and fixtures, room layouts and finishes. The home maintains its rustic charm and historic character while now offering a few necessary conveniences. The cabin fosters togetherness with flexible sleeping options, including a bunk room and lofts that altogether accommodate up to eight guests.
